Matthew is a skilled clinician whose approach involves capturing your interest in patterns that may no longer serve you and igniting your motivation for positive change. He combines his knowledge and experiences from working in special education and as a clinician to employ a person-centered approach, incorporating Cognitive-Based Therapy (CBT), trauma-focused interventions, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and experiential therapy. His expertise extends to ADHD, trauma, anxiety, and depression as well as academic and special education support, collaboration, and advocacy.  When Matthew is not in the therapy office he can be found in the psychology department at COD, sparking the minds of college students and future clinicians.

Joel Tellinghuisen, MA, LPC, 

Joel specializes in working with adolescents and adults during important transitions and developmental stages.  He uses a values-based counseling approach, which helps clients confidently assess their options and make choices as they navigate through life.  This approach provides clients with a solid foundation they can rely on not only in the present  but also in future situations. Joel also assists adults to improve their relationship with their teen children.  He uses developmental theory as a lens to promote healthy communication and interactions between parents and teenagers. Joel has completed his ADHD-CCSP certification, which gives him advanced insight into holistic and evidenced-based treatment strategies for individuals with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) .This expertise allows him to provide comprehensive support and guidance for both adolescents and adults with ADHD.

Another areas of expertise and passion for Joel is working with educators.  Specifically,  he focusses of issues such as burnout, secondary traumatic stress, and educator-student interactions. He understands and validates the increasingly heavy burdens faced by educators and utilizes cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behaviora therapy (DBT) techniques to help educators identify their areas of need.  He also provides tangible strategies and techniques that can be implemented both inside and outside the school setting.

Joel holds a licenses to practice in both Illinois and Wisconsin, which allows for a continuation of counseling for young adults and families who split their time between these states for college or business.
