Katie Kirshenbaum, LSW
Nice to meet you
Katie is a Licensed Social Worker who is passionate about helping clients reconnect with themselves, build emotional resilience, and move toward a life aligned with authenticity and self-compassion. She specializes in working with individuals navigating complex trauma, and identity exploration.
With over 13 years of experience supporting survivors of sexual violence, trauma, and systemic oppression, Katie brings a deep sensitivity to the ways trauma impacts both the mind and body.
Katie is a queer identified therapist who has specialized training and experience working with LGBTQIA+ clients, and provides affirming and inclusive care that honors each client’s lived experience and identity.
Clients often describe Katie as calm, compassionate, and easy to talk to in session. She strives to create a space where clients feel safe to explore painful experiences, challenge old patterns, and rediscover their strengths.
Katie’s educational background provides a strong foundation for her clinical practice. Holding a Master’s in Social Work and a Bachelor’s in Sociology, Katie brings an integrative understanding of both individual development and the social systems that influence behavior and well-being. Katie’s minors in International Studies and Women’s and Gender Studies further inform her awareness of cultural context, identity, and intersectionality.
This academic grounding enhances Katie’s ability to recognize the complex interplay between personal experiences and societal structures, and informs a therapeutic approach that is insightful, culturally responsive, and rooted in social justice. Katie intends for clients to feel seen and supported within the full context of their lives.
Katie integrates evidence-based approaches into her work including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed therapy, and mindfulness-based practices. Her clinical style is collaborative, relational, and grounded in the belief that every person has the capacity to heal when given the right support and understanding.
Outside of the therapy room, Katie enjoys spending time in her backyard garden, drinking too much coffee, reading poetry, and spending time with her partner and two dogs.
